Project Title

Replacement Boiler/Equipment

Caersalem Independent Chapel

Project Description

Caersalem Independent Chapel is located centrally in the village of Pontyberem, which continually encourages the community to utilise on a regular basis for events, including coffee mornings, with the aim of opening the doors to draw in new members, also the local junior school visit the building regularly as part of their Pastoral Care lessons.

The Chapel has seen some notable alteration and modernisation over the years, with the replacement of windows and weatherboards, also modernisation of the kitchen and WC facilities, which has led to changes in the aesthetical appearance of the exterior, but internally the main Chapel retains its fine interior.

The existing boiler has been condemned by a qualified engineer as unsafe to continue using and requires urgent replacement, which will include to strip out and remove the existing Potterton Osprey 150 heating boiler and install a new wall mounted Valliant Ecotec 48 kw condensing boiler, which may include the installation of a plume management system to meet current Building Regulations.

Also, following the recent installation of a new sound system to improve the service delivery they offer for groups participating in special services and concerts, also young musicians and choirs participating in family services, carol services, nativity plays and recitals, offering new modernised services for the community, there is a need to purchase an iPadPro, due to the quality of the item, to work in conjunction with the new sound system.

Officer Comments

Caersalem Chapel has a lot of local history and whilst the group have given up numerous volunteer hours and used a large amount of their own funds it is essential that the group seeks financial support for the future sustainability of the chapel as a local community venue.

The grant will accelerate the implementation of the project.  It is fully sustainable in both the short and long term. The replacement, energy efficient boiler will ensure that the chapel is fit for purpose and therefore lead to its long term sustainability.
